Funding agencies and employers are increasingly requiring more thorough evaluation and performance measurements as part of the project management process. Professionals need to effectively demonstrate that their projects will have a measurable impact.

To help project managers succeed in their fields, the V.I. Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc. (VI RC&D), in partnership with the UVI Cooperative Extension Service, is hosting a two-day, hands-on Project Design & Evaluation Short Course, conducted by trainers from the NOAA Coastal Services Center. The short course’s interactive curriculum is designed to help management, education, outreach and research professionals increase their project effectiveness by providing attendees with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to design and implement projects that have measurable impacts on their target audience.

The Short Course will be held:
January 29–30, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the UVI Research & Extension Center Room 133 on St. Croix, and
February 1–2, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the UVI Small Business Development Center Conference Room, Nisky Center, on St. Thomas.

REGISTRATION IS FULL - WE ARE ONLY TAKING WAITING LIST REGISTRATIONS NOW!

The Project Design & Evaluation Short Course is ideal for government agencies, community groups and non-profit organizations managing projects that require strong evaluation components. It will help professionals design projects that have specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely goals and objectives. It will also help them design their project evaluation strategy, which is a key requirement for successful project management.

Project Design & Evaluation Short Course participants will learn about instructional design theory, project design, performance measures, evaluation design, project development, project implementation, and evaluation purpose, methods and design (click for draft agenda). NOAA trainers also recommend that participants take the free online Needs Assessment Training offered by NOAA Coastal Services Center at www.csc.noaa.gov/needs prior to the short course.

The Project Design & Evaluation Short Course will be conducted by Ms. Pam Kylstra and Ms. Sacheen Tavares, trainers with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Coastal Services Center. Ms. Kylstra is a program development specialist for the Center who assists with the educational design of Center products and develops training programs for the coastal resource management community and other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations. Ms. Tavares is a coastal training specialist for the Center who has extensive experience in formal and informal education and outreach program development.

Training information and materials will be provided, along with refreshment breaks and luncheons, for a nominal $50.00 per person registration fee. V.I. RC&D Council members and UVI-CES staff will receive a 20% discount. Classroom space is limited, so participants are requested to register no later than Friday, January 19th by Registering Online or with the V.I. RC&D office at 340-692-9607 (fax); 5030 Anchor Way, Suite 2, Christiansted, VI 00820; or vircd@usvircd.org. Contact the V.I. RC&D office at 340-692-9632 x.5 for details about the Project Design & Evaluation Short Course or V.I. RC&D programs.
