Did you know that more than half of the garbage in our landfills is recyclable?

The Recycling Association of the Virgin Islands (RAVI) is a volunteer grassroots organization comprised of individuals, businesses, government agencies, non-government agencies, organizations and clubs. RAVI was initiated in St. Croix in February 2007 (as STXRA) through a project measure enacted by the Virgin Islands Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. (V.I. RC&D), and expanded to St. Thomas and St. John in August 2008.

Our Vision: All residents and visitors are engaged in waste reduction practices by supporting and participating in recycling programs throughout the territory.

Our Mission: To establish a thriving community of recyclers dedicated to conserving resources through the implementation of comprehensive programs that result in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

Our Purpose/Activities:

  • Network: rovide members with contacts, research and up to date information. Support existing businesses and start-ups.
  • Advocate: Support legislation that affects solid waste policies and advances waste reduction practices.
  • Educate: mplement projects and workshops that generate awareness of and commitment to recycling.

Join our grassroots effort to promote recycling in the Virgin Islands!

Freecycle™ is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate too!

One main rule: everything posted must be free. This group is part of The Freecycle Network, a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills. Check out freecycle.org for other cities and info on the movement! E-mail Christianstedfreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com or StThomasfreecycle for questions or improvement ideas!
